Frequently asked questions
Questions we are often asked. If you don't find the answer you need here, please contact us!
Do I have to food tour purchase tickets in advance Can I pay with cash?
Tours must be booked and paid for in advance at least 7 days before the tour date. Tickets can only be purchased with a Visa, MasterCard or by Bank Transfer. Please call 07 571 2453 or email us at info@tasteofplenty.co.nz to make your booking request.

If a food tour is sold out can I get on a waiting list?
Tours are run on set dates so if one is sold out we will be running another at a later date that you can join. We require a minimum of 6 persons to operate the tour. We maintain a list of interested persons for individuals and couples who would be happy to join others. Please visit our contact page and provide your name, phone number and the tour date you desire and we will add you to our wait list.

Will others join our group if we have booked for 6 people?
Yes this may happen, unless you have booked for a Private Tour, for which an additional charge will apply. If you want to guarantee a private tour just for your own group then you should request a quotation for a Private Tour as there may only be a small surcharge applicable to guarantee this.

Do I need to purchase a ticket if I am not eating?
Yes, all guests that come on the tour must purchase a ticket. Non-paying individuals will not be able to join the tour for any reason. The cost of the ticket not only pays for the food and drinks that are sampled while on the tour, but also to pay for the tour guide’s wages. Your guide is offering a valuable service of providing historical, cultural, architectural and neighborhood specific information during the time you are with them on the tour.

Do the tours go ahead in bad weather?
All of our tours are held rain or shine and you should dress appropriately for the day’s weather conditions. Most of our destinations we visit are inside and located close to where our tour minibus can park.

What about taking children/adolescents on the tour?
Our tours were developed with food, wine, beer and culture lovers in mind. While we can accept child aged 11 above, the tour may not be appropriate for all children/youths. Parents, who know their children best, should assess the situation individually and decide whether the tour is appropriate for your child.

Does the Food Tour include a full meal?
While you will be sampling tastings at several food providers and specialty shops, you will not sit down for a full meal at any one place. If a meal option is required then this may be able to be arranges for an additional charge.

Are bathrooms available during the tour?
Yes, bathrooms are available during the tour at selected locations and will be pointed out by your tour guide. However, we strongly encourage guests to use the facilities before meeting up so that we can start the tour on time.

What if I have dietary restrictions?
At this time we CAN provide food substitutions for vegetarians at most stops, but we CANNOT make food substitutions for any other food allergies (such as gluten-free or dairy-free). We are sorry for the inconvenience. Our Food Tour has been designed to highlight the best and most unique aspects of each establishment. Unfortunately, there isn’t always a “next best” option that also meets the special dietary needs of each of our guests. Since we have both your health and palate in mind, we truly appreciate your understanding on this issue.

Are there beverages served on the tour?
Indeed! There is a good sampling of beverages. We will provide bottled water and you may also taste soda, coffee, wine, cider or beer depending on you selected tour.

Are cameras allowed on the tour?
Yes. Cameras are allowed during the tour. We encourage participants to take photos during the tour. You can even post them onto our Facebook page after the tour! We do not allow drones to be used though.

Can I book a Private Tour?
Yes, private tours are available for groups of any size, but many of our venues are small and do not cater for groups larger than 14 persons. So for groups larger than 14 persons we would create a suitable itinerary that can handle bigger groups.

Are Gift Certificates available?
Yes, gift certificates are available for Taste of Plenty Tours and make a perfect gift for holidays, graduations, Mothers and Fathers Day, birthdays or any other special occasion! They are an excellent idea for any food lover on your list. Contact us if you would like to arrange a gift voucher.

Should I tip my guide?
Taste of Plenty does not include gratuities in the cost of your tour. Gratuities are greatly appreciated, although not mandatory.

Can I get a refund or reschedule my ticket?
Once purchased, tickets cannot be refunded, but if you are unable to take the tour on the scheduled day then we may be able to arrange an alternative date. Notice must be received at least 48 hours prior to the tour date in such circumstances.

Thanks for your understanding.
